The fastest traverse on the mountain. Ascend Naro Moru's steep western corridor, summit Lenana, then cross to Sirimon for a gentler descent.

Route itinerary

  1. Day 1 ·

    Naro Moru GateMet Station

    10 km+400 m3–4 hrsSleep: 3,050 m

    Enter Naro Moru Gate (2,650 m) and drive or walk to the Meteorological Station (3,050 m). Short first day to begin acclimatising on the steep western slopes.

  2. Day 2 ·

    Met StationMackinder's Camp

    11 km+1200 m5–6 hrsSleep: 4,200 m

    Steep climb through bamboo and giant heather, crossing the notorious 'vertical bog' — waterlogged moorland demanding gaiters and poles. Mackinder's Camp (4,200 m) below the main peaks.

  3. Day 3 ·

    Mackinder's CampPoint Lenana → Old Moses Camp

    17 km+785 m-1685 m9–11 hrsSleep: 3,300 m

    Pre-dawn start to summit Point Lenana (4,985 m). After sunrise photos descend north via the Sirimon corridor, through alpine moorland and heather to Old Moses Camp (3,300 m). Long but rewarding day.

  4. Day 4 ·

    Old Moses CampSirimon Gate

    9 km-1050 m3–4 hrs

    Final descent through montane forest to Sirimon Gate (2,250 m). Transfer back to Nanyuki.
